New to Source is ZAKKIA.
We were lucky to chat to ZAKKIA's Director, Sara ahead of her NZ launch with Source.
SH+O: What is the quick pitch that defines your business?

ZAKKIA: ZAKKIA is the Sydney based homewares label where Swedish heritage meets natural handmade design. We collaborate with small, family owned makers to handcraft unique design objects that can be enjoyed over a lifetime.

SH+O: Where do you find inspiration?

ZAKKIA: ZAKKIA is built around craftsmanship and the beauty of the handmade process, so a lot of my inspiration comes from the raw materials we use. The skills of our makers' are also a big influence because the whole design process is so collaborative and they are just as excited as we are to create something new.
SH+O: What was your biggest challenge when starting your business and how did you overcome it?

ZAKKIA: From early on I knew I wanted to work with small, family owned studios to create ZAKKIA products. Initially there was a lot of time spent finding partners who shared the same values, had the best skills and were great to work with. The ground work was worth it and we are now thrilled with the partnerships we have with our makers.

SH+O: What was your best business moment?

ZAKKIA: Launching the first full collection! I was astounded by the support we received for the first collection in 2014 and it was during that launch that I knew ZAKKIA could really be something.

SH+O: Where do you see the future of retail heading?

ZAKKIA: I think the success of our industry's future lies with the consumer, and our ability to not only provide them with beautiful products but with service that is seamless and personalised. Businesses need to be nimble and ready to change things up to meet the desires of all customers, large and small.
