Another new exhibitor in Source Home + Object is Hobbs & Co. We sneak a few minutes with her before she jets off to Paris for Maison & Objet.

SH+O: What is the quick pitch that defines your business?

HOBBS & CO: Our designs are created from original artworks, we then have these digitally printed onto gorgeous fabrics and made into products…just for you.
SH+O: Where do you find inspiration?

HOBBS & CO: Pretty much everywhere, I'm regularly distracted by light, colours and textures…a regular Magpie.
For this particular collection I had an amazing trip around the South Island. The colours of the sky, the lakes and the land were captivating and these drove the colours for this collection…we have such a beautiful country and it really shines through when you've been away for a while.
SH+O: What was your biggest challenge when starting your business and how did you overcome it?

HOBBS & CO: For me it's an ongoing learning process…as a natural creative the business side of things has been a steep learning curve, I'm slowly getting to grips with it…with much help from great people!

SH+O: What was your best business moment?

HOBBS & CO: Earlier this year I applied to show our products at Maison & Objet, an amazing design trade fair in paris. The application criteria was quite fierce and having visited the fair I thought there was only a very slim chance we'd be accepted...but we got in! One of those exciting and terrifying moments at the same time.

SH+O: Where do you see the future of retail heading?

HOBBS & CO: Retailers seem to respond to something new, something different. A product that has a story and appeals emotionally to their customers. The market is flooded with products, so in order to stand out you need to have a real point of difference.
