Building a business in a new area can be a challenge but Margot from Heart Ethical takes it all in her stride.

SH+O: What is the quick pitch that defines your business?

HEART ETHICAL: Heart Ethical is a boutique ethical business specialises in gorgeous linens and wallpaper. Our linens are designed by me (Margot), hand loomed in India & hand screen printed in New Zealand.

SH+O: Where do you find inspiration?

HEART ETHICAL: I live rurally and my inspiration comes from what I see around me. There's so much beauty in the seemingly ordinary - from the silhouette of leaves on a tree to blossoms floating to the ground in the wind.
SH+O: What was your biggest challenge when starting your business and how did you overcome it?

HEART ETHICAL: Without a background in interiors one of my large challenges has been creating a network - Source has been invaluable for helping me do this!

SH+O: What was your best business moment?

HEART ETHICAL: Making the leap to screen printing myself. Going through building a screen printing table to getting the repeats working in a yardage situation has been challenging and amazingly satisfying. The end product is worth the hard work to get there.

SH+O: Where do you see the future of retail heading?

HEART ETHICAL: With the advent of larger and larger stores, there will increasingly be room for original and quality design with short runs. Customers are increasing demand of the artisan value of products.
