The Happy Emporium is a fresh floral-inspired online fashion, design and lifestyle store.
Fun and free-spirited, The Happy Emporium is a cross-section between fashion and design with its many lines: clothing, shoes, accessories, fine jewellery, art and objects. We were lucky to get the chance to chat with it's owner, Michelle.
SH+O: What is the quick pitch that defines your business?

THE HAPPY EMPORIUM: Purveyors of pretty. Curators of cool.

SH+O: Where do you find inspiration?

THE HAPPY EMPORIUM: Everywhere! Nature, streetscapes, architecture. Pinterest & Instagram searches.
SH+O: What was your biggest challenge when starting your business and how did you overcome it?

THE HAPPY EMPORIUM: Letting go of a corporate salary that I'd worked hard for years to achieve and being at peace with the idea that my husband would be earning ALL our household earnings initially. Not sure I ever completely overcame this to be honest but his emotional support and reminders that I need to quit being such a competitive jerk really helped. I also realised that disposable income isn't everything if you're miserable.

SH+O: What was your best business moment?

THE HAPPY EMPORIUM: There have been a lot involving our loyal customers but in terms of best milestones. We recently reached the top 2% of Shopify stores globally for traffic (number of visitors) who launched in the same period.

SH+O: Where do you see the future of retail heading?

THE HAPPY EMPORIUM: Online! I think years from now a lot of the larger traditional bricks and mortar stores could be replaced with customer engagement zones i.e places where shoppers can collect online purchases from if they want to, engage and connect with brand representatives and feel and interact with products if they would like to see it in the flesh but warehouses/fulfilment centres will be where all the stock is actually held and dispatched from.
