The Axe, along with sister store Stacks Furniture Store is a family owned business, run by Duncan & Meg Domett and their daughter Grace Dawson. Stacks Furniture Store has been specialising in New Zealand made furniture for the past six years and The Axe - more focussed on contemporary furniture, homeware and gifts - recently opened. Thanks to Meg for taking the time to talk to us.

SH+O: What is the quick pitch that defines your business?

STACKS: Combining the unexpected, embracing colour and keeping things affordable.

SH+O: Where do you find inspiration?

STACKS: By solving problems – we are being told everyday what people are looking for (but can't find) – tracking it down for them and the pleasure that gives us all is very inspiring.
SH+O: What was your best business moment?

STACKS: Best business moments always come from people telling us they loved being in our stores – how cool is that? To have built something that people enjoy, the BEST.

SH+O: Where do you see the future of retail heading?

STACKS: While an online presence, both through e-commerce and increasing social channels is vitally important – our physical stores, where the real interactions and relationships are built with our gorgeous customers are the jewels in our crown - and our future (that is why you will always find us behind the counter)!
