5 Minutes With...Sandra from Only Orb

SH+O:  Where did the idea for your business come from?

It came from a slow realisation that there was a void in the marketplace – the gift where the giver is excited to give, and the receiver is honestly surprised.

SH+O:  Where are you based – online/store front

Based on the sunny Gold Coast (or the GC as we like to call it)

SH+O:  Do you work from home?  How does that impact your life?

The orbs never feel like work.  – Yes, we work from home a lot. 😊 We do what has to be done to bring the orbs to the people ;)

SH+O:  Where do you look for inspiration?

Resorts, travel and design.  My business partner and I share a passion for resorts, anywhere in the world.  We love texture, light, colour and clever ideas.

SH+O:  Best piece of advice you’ve been given

Don’t look backwards – you just get a sore neck.

SH+O:  How do you start your day?

Wish I could say meaning meditation, yoga stretching and pensive thoughts but, you’ve got me… Insta. ☹

SH+O:  How do you end your day?

Family!

SH+O:  How do you switch off from work?  Can you?

No, there is no off button.  Wouldn’t have it any other way.  Oh, there is a workshop dog called Louis – but he’s just a crazy distraction.

SH+O:  How do you combine business with creativity?

The battle between left and right brain is constant.  Luckily one of us is more creative and the other loves business – it just works.

SH+O:  What is your creative process?

Travel is out inspiration.  Exposure to raw scents and different materials is step 1. In dreaming up the next orb.

SH+O:  How do you plan the year ahead for your business?

We plan based on the seasons and the ebb and flow in retail.  Testing and sampling is ongoing so we aim to release new product at pivotal times throughout the year.

SH+O:  Are you strategic in business?

Incredibly but shhhhh…

SH+O:  Hardest business lesson you’ve learnt

Don’t take it personally – not everyone is going to love your idea – and that’s ok.

SH+O:  What do you expect when you visit Source?

To return to Australia with a heavier suitcase. 😊
